Types of Capacitors, Electrical Dost

There are three basic types of Capacitors given in the below:

(1) Parallel plate capacitor

(2) Cylindrical capacitor:

(3) Spherical capacitor:

Let’s discuss in details

(1) Parallel plate capacitor

Parallel plate capacitor consists two parallel metal plates each of area A separated by a finite distance d containing dielectric between them. One of the plate is positively charged and the other is connected to earth. (Fig. 12.13).

(2) Cylindrical capacitor:

Cylindrical capacitor consists of two coaxial cylinders of radius a and b respectively. Outer surface of inner cylinder is positively charged and inner surface of outer cylinder acquires negative charge. A medium of permittivity e(epslon) is present between two cylinders. The outer surface of outer cylinder is earth connected. (Fig. 12.14)

(3) Spherical capacitor:

Spherical capacitor consists of two concentric spheres of radii a and b. The outer surface of inner sphere is positively charged. Inner surface of outer sphere acquires a negative charge by induction. Outer surface of outer sphere is earth connencted. (Fig. 12.15). A medium of permittivity e is present in the space between two spheres.
